Would be nice if you made a “User Switcha” also! With links that could be placed on the page and be able to switch from a User Profile to another User Profile.
BuddyBoss has this implemented nicely.. IF a person was using BuddyBoss.. but this would be lovely as a stand-alone WP plugin.

Interesting idea.. can you walk thru the steps of how it would work?

@specialk First, thanks for the prompt response!
Sure.. One of the major dilemmas is the constant page refreshes and “switching back n forth” to see dev changes, rather it be some function.. css.. etc. And it gets even more irritating when one has to ‘switch roles’ and or ‘switch user profiles’ (capabilities) between numerous role / profile / capability setups!

Using your already brilliant Theme Switcha is a MAJOR help because as I switch from theme to theme (which is actually me switching from exact duplicates of the same theme but different function.php files and page builders used in that same duplicated theme).

So.. it would be more ‘streamlined’ IF, while on my (main screen im logged in as admin) and then on (secondary screen logged in as Member #1 with ccaps A,B,C).

If while on secondary screen I could click a button / link and (without having to logout and log back in), just switch immediately from:
(Role = Member #1 with ccaps A,B,C) to (Role = Member #2 with ccaps D,E,F)

(Role = Subscriber) to (Role = Editor)

I just used 2 really simple Role / Capability examples above, but I’m sure you could imagine the numerous different Role / Capability combinations one frontend logged in user could have. I don’t think your plugin would have to worry about that part, it would just be the switching without having to log in/out functionality.

Then have button / link work as a toggle OR dropdown to either toggle back to original user OR dropdown select a different user.

As for the Admin area, much like you have Theme Switcha, one could copy/paste link or in my case right-click and open in new window.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Do you know of any free plugin that can do this? You mentioned BuddyBoss but it’s a paid thing..

    Yes, there is https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-switching/
But that demands that you be on Users page in Admin (backend) and you have to find user then click a link by THAT user’s name. OR have toolbar on site frontend.
It works, but it logs you out as Admin and then you have to switch back. I used it and actually got “semi locked out” from my Admin user! The other issue is it’s relying on backend and having to be on User’s page in Admin. vs just having a simple button or hyperlink I can put right in a header that’s always there on every frontend page.. WHILE still being logged in on my second screen working as Admin.

    And there is: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-user-switch/
Didn’t even try it because it has none of the features I mentioned. I’d just open an incognito window and just log in/out before installing this plugin.

Yes, BuddyBoss is commercial.. I was just referring to it because it works like how I explained.

They have actually improved it since that video in 2019.

Another advantage is.. it would allow say an admin to be able to (without exposing password) switch to a user and make adjustments on that user’s behalf (change a setting or maybe upload an avatar).. and then switch right back to Admin.. easy.
