    It appears that WP Dark Mode only works as advertised when LOGGED IN.

    I do my admin in an instance in the Brave browser where I am usually logged in.

    WP Dark Mode works perfectly.

    Generally I test my work using other browsers like Firefox. Chromium, Vivaldi and Brave on Android but I do NOT log in.

    WP Dark Mode does NOT work. The screen will flash dark and return to light mode immediately.

    Is WP Dark Mode only available to logged in users?

  • From my experience with the plugin, if you are seeing flashes of the dark mode, try disabling the “OS or Browser” aware settings. Just turn dark mode on or off by default and put a toggle button to allow the users to change the mode.

    I will also say no — it’s not supposed to just be available for logged in users. If you have performance (caching) plugins installed, that may be related as well.

    Sorry Ben,

    1. “disabling the “OS or Browser” aware” has no effect.

    2. “a toggle button” was in place all along.

    3. “performance (caching) plugins installed” purging all pages has NO effect.

    4. As soon as I login, it works. Log out and the dark flashes are back when toggled.

    I love the BACKEND in WP Dark Mode which finally makes the admin pages easily readable for this sight challenged user.

    Is there a way to escalate the issue?

    Never mind. Found a better plugin that worked out of the box.

    Weird… plugin works great on all my sites. It’s not normal so reporting the issue with the unique environment it’s occurring in would have been helpful to help prevent future occurrences if it has anything to do with compatibility with a theme or something.

    The theme I use is Seedlet
    webserver on a pair VPS is nginx
    CDN provider is Highwinds
    Latest version of wordpress

    Thanks! I’m just another user but thanks for submitting that because I’ll make a note of it, myself, and then I’m sure the devs will, too. I have gotten great use out of this plugin (and great experiences with wppool folks helping me with weird workarounds when I want to stretch the prescribed use of the plugin for web design quirks) and just want to try to help any way I can as a community member who wants to see it stay alive and updated.

    Thank you Jeff for reminding me to list environment variables I should have included in my original post.
    After submitting my last reply I thought it may be helpful also to note that I use the Async JavaScript plugin to defer loading java script until after the page has started rendering at the visitor end.

    I seem to remember a similar feature was offered by WP Dark Mode as a PRO feature.

    I did not think to deactivate that plugin while trouble shooting.

    Maybe that helps?

    What other plugin did you try Barefoot?
