    Hi!

If I use an ASIN, everything works perfectly but I cannot get it to do a search for a string.

The URL I see when I put my mouse over the link points to Amazon with an ASIN but if I use a search string, the URL points back to the page I am on…

Maybe I have the wrong syntax, could anybody tell me what string I should use to search for, let’s say, “Dracula” (since Halloween is near… (-; )?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Some bugs in this area, make sure you have the Search Text setting populated with say %TITLE%, some discussion on this here.

In the short term if you set the search text indirectly it seems to work okay, so for example:

    [amazon search_text_s=%TITLE%S#&title=Dracula&search_links=1]

Or you can set the ‘Search Text’ setting in the backend to be %TITLE% or %TEXT1% or whatever. If this is the way you would normally use it.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Paul!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work in my case…

Could anything in my setup affect this? I have a multisite setup, could this be the cause?

    Thank you!

Hi, I honestly don’t know whether multisite would cause problems, although the search links are simpler than product ones so I don’t think it would.

What version of the plugin are you using?

Did you put the shortcode in exactly as above?

Do you have a link to the offending page I can have a look at? (preferably with the Amazon Link Debug setting enabled).

    Hi Paul!

I am using version 3.2.4 on WordPress 4.0.

I tried both pasting the code as above in visual mode (but I made sure it got pasted as text and pasting it in text mode.

(Pasting it in visual mode had the end result of converting the ampersands to their HTML entities…)

Is it ok if I send you a link using the email address in the plugin?

Thank you and have a nice day!

    Hi,

Yep, that email address should work fine.

    Hi,

In case you did not get my email here is the solution:

    The shortcode should be:

    [amazon search_text_s=%TITLE%S#&title=Dracula&search_link=1]

Both Search Text and Search Link can be set in the backend settings. Then you don’t need to specify them in the shortcode, making it a bit more concise e.g. [amazon title=Dracula].

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi Paul!

    Sorry for the delayed reply…

    It works now, thank you!

So the problem was mainly the “search_links” as I initially built it correctly, I tried to change from TITLE to TEXT1 when I saw that it did not work but misunderstood the instructions you had given and only did it in one place…

I have not had time to check how to set the default parameters in the backend settings but will do so as soon as possible.

Thank you for the great plugin and for your help!

    Nick
