• Wow… this plugin has one of the most confusing, user unfriendly interfaces I have come across in many years. According to the high scores it must be functionally good, but I agree with many users that it is VERY confusing to use. I won’t go into details, others have done already.

I have used all other major security plugins on many sites, for many years. Somehow this one had escaped my attention. After installing it, I was completely in the dark about what to do and find where. None of the usual security settings could be found, a black box type wizard had to be used to set it up (creepy), and after setup I was still in the dark about what to do where and how. All kinds of notices were popping up all over the place as well. All kinds of complex and unclear (support?) texts were right in the interface as well, adding nothing but even more confusion about working with this plugin.

I will give 3 stars, because apparently it must do some good things according to the reviews. But please take a good look at your competitors and learn about creating a user friendly interface asap. I deinstalled it after spending 10 minutes with it, feeling lost and finally irritated.

We have spent a lot of time improving the UI|UX based on people wanting/requesting a better UI|UX. So most of those complaints are old/outdated. BPS plugin pages can be broken by other plugins or themes loading their scripts in BPS plugin pages. We created a fix for that here by adding an option to remove other plugin or theme scripts from loading in BPS plugin pages and breaking things: https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/remove-plugin-scripts-from-loading-in-other-plugin-pages/

BPS Setup video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTX-SjOVZdw The Setup Wizard automatically and completely sets up BPS. So there isn’t anything more you need to do after running the Setup Wizard, which takes about 10 seconds to run/complete.

Also it is important to remember that it is not possible to create something that 100% of all people will like. So the best you can ever hope to achieve is majority appeal. ??

I installed the current version, and think it has a very bad UI. I can’t imagine how bad it was before… Listen, I really don’t like to give negative comments, but I could not let this go by without letting you know.

A black box wizard that doesn’t tell me what it does and how it affects my site, a lack of “regular” settings after the wizard, but a lot of confusing texts and interface elements nevertheless, warnings and notices all over the place, and apparently using it involves editing the htaccess file. Come on… it’s 2016! On top of that I noticed that my old htaccess had gone after deinstalling the plugin. Luckily I had a site backup to fall back to.

I’m sorry, I stick to my opinion. I really suggest you take a look at other security plugins for inspiration. Regardless of how good your plugin may be technically, if regular WP admins (non-coders, non-techies) reject the plugin because of interface and usability issues, you disregard a large number of potential users. If you want to achieve majority appeal, the way the plugin currently works is a big obstacle in my opinion (and others). From a security expert point of view it may make perfectly sense, but from a regular user or admin point of view it doesn’t.

No worries my friend. You are entitled to your own opinion. We don’t take that personally. ?? I’m sorry you don’t like the UI|UX. ??

I love old classic cars like 69 Camaros, Mustangs and other Muscle cars and find most new cars fairly unappealing/boring to look at. So anyway the point is everyone has their own personal likes/dislikes in the World. No big deal. ??

Sorry to hijack of this review, for the UI i admit its not the most beautiful and simple UI but for the amount of information, tips and options to push all in it, its already very simplified UI.

It has some serious improvement over the past 2 years, like one click install, previously users need to manually select the option to secure certain area.

And AITpro teams has one of the best support for the free plugin in the www.ads-software.com despite the plugin is quite technical. And they are willingly to explain step by step and no matter how silly the question is.

They don’t spend time on marketing or fancy UI, rather spend time on answering the support forum to pros and new users and making the product works very well for all time, it isn’t easy.

@lagoongear Thanks and very much appreciated. Yep you are spot on with where we focus the majority of our time and attention. A good UI|UX is important so we will continue to try and improve the BPS UI|UX. Ironically, we have developed a very advanced UI|UX for a custom plugin that we use personally. The UI|UX is pretty much identical to a computer desktop and Taskbar where you can open/close/maximize/minimize/resize/position windows and the last personal preference state is saved to profiles per user. So basically you can setup your own preferences for the visual design/appearance of any/all plugin pages, which mimic windows in Microsoft Windows. We may decide to create that UI|UX in the BPS plugin, but personally we feel that most people would feel that that type of UI|UX does not follow the WordPress standard UI|UX look and feel, which tends to be frowned upon generally.
