• It’s super annoying that Hello Dolly is installed on every instance of WordPress. It really serves no purpose and is an extra step to delete that I have to take when spinning up a new site.

  • It serves a purpose, and that is to show potential new plugin developers how easy you can change something.

Maybe there should be a check mark during install if it should be installed.

I want to jump on the “drop it from the default install” bandwagon, but I think Nico’s solution is perfect. It does serve a purpose, for a very narrow slice of potential WordPress users.

For those of us who are spinning up new WordPress sites for clients on a regular basis, though, a checkbox to omit it (and Akismet, since I’ve built exactly one site in the past 5 years that allowed comments anyway) during installation would do the trick!
