Would be great, if not for absolute paths

  • This plugin pretty much works as it should, but for a developer working locally or on a temporary server, it can be a headache to move the site for the final domain, as the plugin makes use of absolute paths for a couple of features, such as templates (no matter if default templates or inside a child theme).

    Edit: added another star for the support provided by the author. Still need to test the suggestion.

    @coningham – Thanks for the feedback on this. Depending how you migrate from your local installation to your remote installation this is generally easily sorted out.

    You can try clearing the image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous … and if that doesn’t work then you can use the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options.

    Using one (or both) has sorted out almost every migration related issue we have seen.

    Oh, I will try that! I had searched for answers on how to solve the problem, but I hadn’t stumbled upon this suggestion. I will have to migrate a site quite soon so I will let you know if it works. If it does, the plugin won’t be great, it will be perfect ??
    Btw, I migrate using WP Clone.

    @coningham – I’m not specifically familiar with “WP Clone” but the name would indicate it could be a good candidate for using the Reset Option.

    If you have any special settings you are using in the originating NextGEN Gallery installation make sure to keep good notes on them as the Reset Option will put them all back to new installation defaults.

    Unfortunately the Reset Option did not work for the template, all pages gave the “invalid template” error. Fortunately that was the only issue with the final migration and for the final result, after editing the galleries, I am quite pleased with the overall effect the plugin brought to the site.
