• I’m keen to start trying out some HTML5 and CSS3

Since CSS is only presentational I’m not worried about that
but I was wondering if using a HTML5 Doc Type might
upset the apple cart with either WP Core or Plugins?

If the theme uses HTML5 elements like <footer> and <nav>
is this likely to cause problems with most plugins?

I realise its a blanket question and its better to test
each plugin individually but from a theory point of view
do you think it would be a big problem?

  • Check out the toolbox theme from the official repository. It’s rocking HTML5. You’ll notice there’s a little JavaScript shiv in there to help with backwards compatibility for less capable browsers: *ie*
As far as plugins go, I would think you’d be okay. A fair amount of themes are being built off toolbox. But I’m not a plugin dev. So what do I know.
