• Hi,

I quite like the simplicity of this plugin, could do with a bottom offset option if possible (I replied to another thread which asked that question).

The other thing, which I hope is not too forward a question, is would you consider changing the admin menu title to something a bit more professional sounding?

When I deliver a site to a client, I’d like it to look professional, but when they see an Admin Menu item with a title that includes a vague description (“or anything”) and emphatic punctuation (!), it just looks a bit “hacky”.

I know I can easily do this myself with a quick function, but I wonder if anyone else has a similar “blush”…

Sorry, I hope this request doesn’t sound offensive, as I think the plugin itself is very nice.

  • Request definitely doesn’t sound offensive! I do understand your concern, however I don’t necessarily agree with it. Personally, I think the WordPress ecosystem is a bit less “corporate” than other platforms, so frivolous names are very common.

I don’t think clients are all too concerned with it in general, in my experience they don’t really care about any plugin’s name. But of course, just because it’s generally not an issue, doesn’t make your situation invalid — I do see what you’re trying to say.

In this case, I think the plugin’s name is the best name I can think of to describe what it actually does: it’s usually used to make menus sticky, but it can actually be used for, well, anything. So, people who are searching for a plugin with this functionality, will see the name and think “that’s exactly what I need“. I don’t think “Sticky Menu” or “Sticky Element” cover the possibilities, for example.

I know I can easily do this myself with a quick function, but I wonder if anyone else has a similar “blush”…

Like I said, I don’t share your opinion on this myself, but it’s a valid question. Anyone else would like to see the name of the plugin changed?

?? thanks for the kind response, was waiting for a slap!

I don’t think the name of the plugin should change, as I agree entirely with the tagging, so all I was gently nudging you on is that the actual Admin Menu link itself could be a bit more subtle without changing anything else..

There is no relationship between the plugin itself as listed in WP, or in the actual name of the plugin, to the Admin Menu Title.

While the WP ecosystem is not so “corporate”, I also think that for a plugin to be taken seriously (ultimately to the developers benefit), then perhaps nomenclature is worth thinking about at some point?

BUT, as you rightly pointed out, this is just a personal opinion, and all I can say is thanks very very much for your generosity in creating and making the plugin available to the community! Always appreciated.
