• Do both versions share the same DB structure? I’m planning to play around with the nightly builds so I was wondering if I could just point 1.5 to the same database as I use on my main page. That way I could actualy see if everything works ok.

Upgrading will alter the db, and if you point at it from two locations it will break. Fixable, but it’ll still break.

    Try a test blog ?

Bad bad idea. While technically 1.5 can use the same database as 1.2, it’s only possible if you modify the wp-config.php file so you’re using a prefix other than the default wp_. In other words, any number of WordPress installations can share a database, but the must all use their own group of tables within it.

So no, you will not be able to use 1.2 data with 1.5. The database would need to be upgraded (/wp-admin/upgrade.php), which would make it break with 1.2 after.

Thanks for those quick answers. I guess I’ll just copy my existing installation to a temp location and upgrade that backup instead of modifying my main copy.
