WP 2.2.3 and Permanlinks

  • I just upgraded my site (joshua.trevino.at) to WP 2.2.3 from 2.2, and I am sorry to report that I now receive the following error upon loading the site:

    Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /home/.kate/trevinoadmin/joshua.trevino.at/wp-includes/classes.php on line 95

    There’s an identical error on line 96 of classes.php too, but you get the idea. The only way to fix the problem is to set the permalinks format to Default. For some reason, once that is done, the site loads fine.

    I am posting this for two reasons:

    1) So the WP team is aware of the issue.
    2) To ask whether there’s some sort of fix or workaround that others are aware of.

  • I’d suspect a missing or corrupted file.

    You might want to re-upload the WordPress 2.2.3 files. If using FTP, make sure that you’re uploading PHP files in ascii/text mode.

    Thanks for the suggestion. Alas, it is not to be: I followed the extended instructions for upgrading to the letter, and the same exact problem arises.

    Deactivating all the plugins doesn’t help, either.

    Seems like I’m stuck with default permalinks whether I want them or not. I can only conclude the problem is either with WP 2.2.3 or my hosting provider (which is the usually laudable Dreamhost).

    If anyone trustworthy wants to muck around my WP setup, I’m game….

    Update on this: I tried upgrading my PHP from 4.7 to 5.2.2. No luck. I’m more and more convinced that something is up with WP 2.2.3.
