WP 2.7.1/Different Directory/Auto Upgrade

I am about to install WP 2.7.1 on a clients server. As we will be working on it before it goes live, I plan on adding WP to a /wordpress folder. Once its ready to go live, I plan on doing this : https://www.ads-software.com/docs/installation/different-address/

Now with a new upgrade will the client be able to upgrade without problems even though WP is in a unique directory?
