WP 2.8.4 – New Bug Inhibiting New User Self-Registration

Hi,

I recently updated a group site to WP 2.8.4, and now people are having trouble registering themselves. It prompts them to choose passwords for themselves, and then blows off what they typed and just auto-generates random text passwords instead.

If they happen to catch this blip in the email activations they receive, they’re OK, but if they don’t catch it, they are simply thwarted in their attempts to login, and they go away. If I’m really lucky, they complain to me and I can manually create an account for them and send them passwords.

Obviously, I thought WP would want to know about this.

(This is besides the issues I’m having with several of my now WP 2.8.4 sites being no longer compatible with some plugins. But I see I’m not the only one complaining about that…)
