• The new WP 2.9 requires me to upgrade to a new MySQL version. My website has run for the last 4 years on MySql 4.0 with WordPress. I have exported the WordPress XML file, created a new MySql 5.0 and above database, installed WordPress 2.9 but when I import the XML document into WordPress with all my posts, pages and more there are 2 years of posts missing and the firs post that appears my sites main page is 3 years old. Many of my pages are missing also.

I have selected to backup all users when creating the XML file and when I manually look at the file, all my current posts are there but they don’t show up in WP 2.9.

Thankfully I am able to return to WP 2.8.6 and my old WP-CONFIG file and MySQL 4.0 database.

Any ideas on what to try? The Upgrade WordPress feature just states that my MySQL version needs to be a higher version.

When I use the Upgrade WordPress feature I get this:

The update cannot be installed because WordPress 2.9 requires MySQL version 4.1.2 or higher. You are running version 4.0.27.

@geeksimplified – I ran into that exact same problem. Here’s how I did it – I used phpMyAdmin to export my database from MySQL4 and import it into a new MySQL5 database.

What I learned upgrading to WordPress 2.9

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. I just went through this process and will be glad to share what I learned!
