I am using Twenty Ten theme on a new installation of WP ver. 3.1. Attempting to upload a 940px by 127px header image. After the upload, it requires me to crop only 3/4 of it. If I upload a smaller image, it still requires me to crop 3/4 of it. Is this a bug, hosting problem?

I have even recreated the image

Try a completely different image. Preferably one that you haven’t cropped or re-saved yourself. One of the alternate header images in the Twenty Ten theme for example. Download a copy to your computer and then go through the header image upload process with it.

Something is wrong with the image. It is most likely not RGB but CMYK.

@kmessinger: That’s what I meant to say but the mind went completely blank! ??

It seems more and more, mine is usually blank.

esmi – I have done that and have had success with every other image I have tried. So you are indicated that the color scheme that the image is rendered in is the problem?

Don’t worry esmi & kmessinger – a blank mind makes room for more information. That is why I have so much time to work with WordPress – blank slate – lol

How do I tell if this image was rendered in CMYK?

Yes. It could be that the image was intended for printing (which uses CYMK color indexing) as opposed to screen (which uses RGB). I don’t know Photoscape but you need a look for a way to change the color index on the image.

But the original image that I grabbed came from a website: https://unitsstorage.com/ I am creating a landing page for one of the franchise owners.

Then my guess is that you are changing the color indexing (or something similar) when you are re-saving the image. Either way, the problem is within the image – not WordPress.

FWIW I had the same problem and gave up trying to sort it out. I tried on my local installation and via hosting. I ended up calling the image via CSS.

A fellow VA has provided me with a template for PowerPoint that works awesome to fix this problem. All I needed to do was insert the header image I wanted into the PowerPoint (yes, PowerPoint)template and save it as a .jpg. I don’t know why this worked – but it did and I am glad.
