• All my articles have a Facebook, Google+, StumbleUpon, etc. buttons so people can recommend them to others. Following the article from Yoast about Permalinks (https://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-structure/) I have changed my permalink structure from custom structure (/%postname%/) to the new “post name” structure. Everything worked fine but I’ve lost all my Facebook likes, Google+ recommendations, … Changing back to my old custom structure doesn’t seem to work, literally. Although WP is telling me that I saved the changes (Permalink structure updated.), the bullet of “Post name” is still selected.

    Few questions:
    – which permalink structure do I have now?
    – how can I get my likes and recommendations back?

Visit https://your-blog-url-here/wp-admin/options-permalink.php and you’ll be able to see what you’re setup to use.

I think the magic with Facebook, Google+, etc. happens on their back end. Since you changed your permalinks, they won’t recognize the new URLs as the old ones.

You’re blog will but they’ll see those as new URLs and reset the likes back to zero. If you want them back you’ll need to change the permlinks back.

Thanks for the reply Jan. At the moment my permalink is set to “Post name” but I would like to switch back to “Custom Structure”. Selecting the radiobutton of “Custom Structure” and clicking on the “save changes” button gives me the message “Permalink structure updated.” but the radiobutton is still active on the “Post name” structure. Whatever I do, I can not go back to my old Custum structure, which was /%postname%/. Is this a bug in 3.3?

Thanks Richard, but I can not seem to find anything related to my problem on this page. I turner all the plugins off one by one, as Ipstenu suggested, but no luck so far.
