WP 3.4 Broke the Admin Dashboard. Ideas?

OK I’ve been hunting through every thread I can find. I again tried disabling ALL plugins and the dashboard still does not function properly.

I’ve tried a re-install from the dashboard as I can access the updates page.

I also tried deleting the wp-admin folder via FTP and manually re-installing hoping to clean up the files and get it working. No luck.

I’m still hunting, but can’t seem to find any resolution to this issue.

Thanks for pitching in. Sadly no love. The dashboard is still broken. It says I’m running – Java Version: 1.6.0_33 from Apple Inc.

Very frustrating that there seems to be no solutions for this. Am I the only one dealing with it? I’ve tried on 3 browsers and two computers with the same result every time.

Did you replace wp-includes as well? There is a lot of javascript in that folder and what you describe is a javascript problem.

You can use firebug and run the scripts to see where it is failing.

I just tried replacing includes. Still no go.

I do have Firebug, but not that familiar with it so I don’t really know how to narrow it down to an element.

I just don’t get it. Not plugin relayed, not theme related, not browser related. I agree that it’s some sort of JS issue, but that all seems to be up to date. Obviously not everyone is having this issue. But I can’t figure why 3.4 won’t work.

OK using the console in Firebug I was able to get this when mousing over the left menu.

Not sure what this tells me but there are indeed errors.

https://www.prophotoshow.net shows a lot of html errors. You need to take care of these also. https://www.prophotoshow.net/wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php shows you are missing this file and likely more from your install.

The file DIR is actually https://prophotoshow.net/blog.

The HTML errors are something I’ll have to look into, but as this only started with 3.4 I’m guessing it’s not what’s causing this issue. Those errors may be in my theme which is past due for an upgrade, but this problem does not change if I set the theme to the default 2011 with no mods.

Really appreciate your input. It’s tough to get help on these kind of issues. Sadly nothing seems to be working so far.

Rolling back to this one. You did reinstall from a fresh copy, I trust. You should also delete the wp-* files except for wp-config.php from the /blog/ folder, and reupload them.

But do try the TwentyEleven theme. Your theme’s functions can adversely impact the dashboard just as much as any plugin.

Page is coming right up. Didn’t take it down.

I overwrote the existing wp-admin and wp-includes directories with files in the current full download of 3.4.

HOWEVER.
I just activated the TwentyEleven theme again and things started working. I have no ideas why as I HAD tried that before. Perhaps it had to do with the files I re-uploaded.

In any case that seems to narrow it to my very old version of the K2 theme. I’ll have to either fix it or build a new design. In the meantime I guess I’ll have to briefly switch over to another theme while trying to use the dashboard.

Having the same issue with an old K2 theme. Everything I’ve read seems to indicate a jQuery conflict.

I’m having the same problems here with a modified Twenty Eleven child theme. The dashboard left side menus don’t pop out, the screen/help menus don’t pop out, and the upload image/files only works if i right click and open in a new tab. Any ideas?

@hifidesign something up. Mine is also an old version of K2. To make my post I have to switch to another theme and them back once posted. On the front end it’s working fine. Not sure where to start as K2 has loads if files. May just have to start working a new theme.

@adellafave Odd you would have that with a 2011 theme. If you activate the non child 2011 does it work OK? If so, you’ll know it’s the child and perhaps you could temporarily remove one file at a time from the child to see which was the culprit.
