WP 3.8.3 and 3.9 visual editor corrupts HTML formatting

    As oft happens, searching for a solution to my problem turns up several answers from 2 or 3 years ago, but none more recent. I apologise if there is a solution I have not found.

    I have been working on a 3.8.3 WP site (static site, not blog) for 6 weeks. In this time I have been using mainly the HTML page editor but often also used teh visual editor. Today, for no clear reason the visual editor totally mucked up my page formatting. Very rude.

    I thought hmmm, i wonder if this is becuase WP wants me to load WP3.9. I dutifully backed up my site, loaded WP3.9, and have the same problem. I can’t use the visual editor becuase it moves my photos in table rows/boxes to strange places, deletes my line spaces thus scrucnhing up my text, and it does not go back to normal when i change to html editor.

    It seems this was a common problem 2 to 3 years ago, but not since? and certainly not ever for me in the last 6 weeks.

    All I did that may have offended WP is i pasted some coloured text from MS word (about 3 words) in this morning inside the visual editor, and then went back to HTMl editor to copy the HTML associated with the coloured text to two other places on one particular page.

    When you look it is OK because I restored my backup from earlier today.

    I occasionally use visual editor and would like to do so occasionally in future. i have tried a plugin meant to resolve this issue, to no effect, namely “Preserved HTML Editor Markup”.

    Please help ??

  • I agree. Is there a plug in available that will allow me to filter out the html tags that i don’t want and allow the ones I do like strong,li,ul,ol,indenting and line
    /paragraph<p> breaks? My clients are screaming for a simple copy/paste from word solution.

    No on the using the word post to blog option for xmlrpc and no on using the compose post in WordPress as this would break the workflow the clients have established.

    This is the workflow that needs to be working:

    1.compose article offline in word.
    2. copy/paste from word to WordPress
    3. Save draft for future publication.

    Move on to next article…

    No hand editing in the visual editor to add back formatting.
    also make the preview show the post as it really will look not pre-stripping word code.
