• Pristine install of 3.9
All plugins disabled the visual editors does not work across all my browsers on 2 different computers.

I seen this issue on many threads & forums, seems pretty definite its a 3.9 issue.
When can we expect a fix?

  • There is no forthcoming fix because there is no such bug in WordPress 3.9. Whatever this is, it is specific to your site/server. Perhaps it would help if you provided some more details – such as the url of your site?

Hi Esmi, thanks for your helpful response.

My site – https://efectivchef.com cant help with the many other user I read about, sorry.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Yes:

    – This was a pristine install not an upgrade. No plugins, 3.9 “out of the box” and problem existed from the start. Carried on building the site expecting a fix by the time I was finished and based on the volume of the same problem, I read about on line.

Regardless I have tried in desperation, as I saw this advice a few times:
    – disabled all plugins. – no difference.
    – switched to default theme with plugins disabled. – no difference.

Saw many have done the same with same result, also since they upgraded to 3.9. Seems as conclusive as it can be to me…..

I see hundred of these posts every day and every one thus far has been site specific. I currently manage about 15 3.9 sites and not of them has this problem. All told, there are well over 5 million WP 3.9 users. Now imagine that the Visual Editor did not work for any of these people, Can you imagine how many posts there would be about such a bug on these forums.

Trust me – when serious stuff happens, we know about here within minutes!

Since we’ve rules out theme & plugins, that leaves just the server or your local network. Have you tried using another computer on a different network to rule out any purely local issues?

I have two wordpress sites and both of them are having problems. Is this something to do with a recent auto upgrade? The dashboard now only shows the menue down the left hand side but blank pages. Can you help?

    Hi,
No – Its hosted with hostgator. Nothing fancy and of the type of service I been running WP on for 5+ years.

Not easy to eliminate but highly un-probable it’s part of the cause.

Hostgator run the server. Have you tried using another computer at your end that is connected to a different network or ISP?

jut tried it on a third computer. Completely different browser as well. – same result.
and yes I’m on a very different network/provider.

I have the same problem Richard. I’ve run into a few issues like this lately and they are taking me way too long to figure out haha. I think I’m going to just hire someone to show me what I’m doing wrong instead of scouring these forums for help.

Sorry, this response probably wasn’t very useful!

Out of curiosity, could you elaborate a little bit about what you mean when you say the visual editor is not working? For example, do you see the HTML editor instead? Or does the browser freeze when you try to edit? Or is there just a blank space where the editor should be? Or are you able to type into the editor but not use the buttons such as bold, italics, etc? Making a note of what exactly is going wrong can sometimes help spark new ideas about how to help.

There is only 1 button “Add Media”. It works but if you insert an image it cannot be seen in the editor.
    also
    – you cannot type/place a cursor in the text area.
    – no other buttons (aka kitchen sink) are displayed.

@garibaldi55 – No unless you solve it later. Let me know of you – thx

Okay, so TinyMCE (the editor buttons) is not loading properly in your case. I’m not sure why that is happening, but esmi’s troubleshooting step to re-copy ALL the WordPress files except .htacess, wp-config.php, and the wp-content/ folder sounds like it would rule out an issue where the original pristine install had a problem (for whatever reason). Just to make sure, have you tried that re-install WordPress step already?

If yes, then another thing you could try is see if you can find someone in another location (another city even) to help you test the editor. You can add a test account for them in the Users section in the dashboard. Make sure you only ever give out access to your site to someone you trust, and delete the user account when you are finished testing. If another person can also see the problem, it is likely an issue on the web host or server side. If they cannot, it’s more likely an issue with your local network or firewall.
