WP 4.6: Visual Editor not working. tinymce not defined error

  • My visual editor doesn’t work anymore. I still see the tab, but it will not switch over when I click on it. Same problem in editing pages and posts.

    The javascript error reads “tinymce is not defined.”

    Things I tried:
    1) disabled all plugins – no change
    2) tried three different browsers – no change
    3) Clearing browser cache – no change
    3) Switching to twenty-fifteen theme (latest version) in combination with all plugins disabled – no change.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP.
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
    – Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!

    Thanks for your reply. The only thing I have not tried is a manual upgrade. I will do this and report back.

    did a manual upgrade work? I’m having the same issue when my site updated to 4.7.1

    visual editor not working in wordpress in nectar theme and

    visual and text tab not working and also not advance layout builder.
