• Last friday I started to notice issues with the backend of my site. I was unable to edit HTML using the “text” tab in posts. I then noticed that the slider on the home page of my theme was blank, stats in my dashboard were not refreshing and the media library was showing no images.

I contacted Bluehost and over the next four days we tried the following:
    – deactivated all plugins (back on one by one)
    – Increased memory size at host
    – re-installed fresh version of WP 4.0
    – Rolled back to 3.9.2 (worked for a little bit but then the issue returned)
    – Switched themes

At this point Bluehost has elevated my ticket through the system and is telling me there’s nothing more they can do. I’m not sure where to go next so I thought I would throw this out to the group here and see if anyone has any suggestions.

Is there an incompatibility with Bluehost? There message said wait times will be longer because of “white screen of death” issues they were helping WP customers with.

    Should I switch hosting?

I forgot to mention that I have two sites hosted at Bluehost. Both are running different themes and plugins and both are experiencing the same issue. I’ve tried running the backend of both from multiple machines and connections to the internet.

Have you tried restoring your database from a backup when the site was working? What is your domain?

If you read thru the threads on here, you’ll find that the problem with admin issues after updating is 99% due to an incompatible plugin or theme.

I know you said you “tried that”, but maybe try again by disabling all plugins, switching your theme to twentyfourteen and posting a link to your site.

voldemortensen – Yes, I neglected to state that we did try a restore from the last time it was working and it resolved a few of the issues but we were still seeing the issue with the slider. My domain is https://outsidehealthandfitness.com

I just tried it again. Currently I have no plugins running and I switched to twenty ten. (also tried twenty fourteen). The issues persist. My domain is https://outsidehealthandfitness.com

    Thanks for the suggestions….

Is deactivating a plug-in sufficient to see if it is interfering or should I actually delete them?

So I spoke with support at bluehost last night. After 1hour on the phone they seemed to have resolved the problem. He said they “reset the core file”(?) Anyway, I was able to see themes and images.

I got up this morning. Published a post and went to the “widgets” area to try to get some functionality back (I have at this point abandoned my previous theme) and widgets is now unresponsive. Also the customize area under appearance and the ability to reply to comments.

To me it seems like the functionality issues are related when they happen. Yesterday it was missing images in the theme area and in the library. Today it’s functionality in the widgets and customize area.

I have put in another ticket with blue host support.

Having the same issues, but with the website on GoDaddy. Nothing really helped. WP 4.0

Justina thanks for the response. I’m sorry you are having a similar issue but it’s good information to see that it’s not something specific to the host. I was starting to wonder about that.

That’s why I posted. I am digging for solution at the moment.

I think it is some kind of JS issue, because I see error “Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function” for all scripts my website has, including those in WP core. Do you?

I’m getting the same error as you are, Justina. “Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function”

Still haven’t been able to find a solution

That’s it – my site has been hacked. There is a new line in every .js file of the parent and child themes I use. That’s the very first line, same in all files.
Helpfull information was posted by paperkawaii in the thread I mentioned here earlier. Off to lots of cleaning…
