WP 5.0.2- Awful

I’d be curious to know if anyone thinks this was an improvement?

There are actually a lot of people who like it. The Slack channel for #core during the 5.0 release was full of them, all happy that it was finally being released.

I think it appeals to a certain mindset, like those that don’t know HTML but want to put “fancy” stuff on page (text is not fancy) and those that are bored with the same old thing wanting something different.

There were quite a few detractors also, that said it was not good, not accessible, and not ready for prime time.

If this is the navigation and editing page design look going forward without the ability to use the Classic plug in, I will look elsewhere for websites. Just not user friendly. If those who are bored (and that’s the best reason for the change), I’ve got plenty for those folks to do for a small nonprofit that provides all the website design and management. Keep it simple… something different is not always better.

It is worth noting that the Classic Editor Plug in has over 1 million downloads – more than just about every other plugin.

If that doesn’t say something I don’t know what does. It should be considered a statistic demonstrating how people feel about Gutenberg.

The downloads don’t say whether the plugin was used to unbreak something broken or to revert away from blocks, but either way it is a clear indication of dissatisfaction with Gutenberg.

Pretty meaningless. Elementor and various other page builder plugins have millions of active installs as well. There is a fair amount of overlap between these two things, actually.

Faulty logic. The other plug ins were a choice to use a mature functioning product (which Gutenberg isn’t).

The million plus downloads of classic editor plugin is a vote against gutenberg. it is a vote to escape and leave gutenberg. That makes it a significant indicator of dissatisfaction.

Also many of those using other visual plugins are now up poo creek with Gutenberg as it breaks some of them. WP-Bakery is a great example – it breaks under Gutenberg.

Yes – I know some will say the devs should re-write it but that would be an arrogant answer – to mess up someone elses work then get them to be responsible for the changes inflicted on them.

Hi, i registered just to say i really disliked new wordpress. I think changes in UI are opposite of improvement. Its like introducing mobile UX paradigms to admin UI which is not necessary at all. My eyes are looking for good old title, url and stuff.

That is what all my clients in the test rollout gave as feedback. In the end it is all about efficiency, meaning fast and without distractions.

It is pretty much classicpress what you are looking for. We started test migrations this week and it looks promising.

I was a great fan of WordPress. I don’t understand how the wordpress release leaders have missed the score on the gutenberg plugin. Over 2.000 reviewers and 2 stars on average, only.

Mind you, those people were willing to try gutenberg before it was a part of 5.0.2

How can wordpress development continue in a dead end street without noticing something is definitely wrong?

And it has been said before, the classic editor plugin was downloaded over a million times in 2 weeks.

On the website it is stated that this release of gutenberg is the first phase of a complete makeover of wordpress. This is a horrific scenario. I will never upgrade wordpress again! And I will start looking for a drupall migration tool.

I had written a lot in a fit of frustration, but I’ll limit it to agreeing that Gutenberg is awful, and we will not be using it. Our calculation is that our time is better spent finding a better way to build sites than learning and dealing with Gutenberg. After two weeks of using it, it’s just not going to work for us. We will never build a new site in WordPress until Gutenberg is gone.

I wrote that ottos logic is incorrect as

1 – Others choose to use other visual editors to GAIN enhanced functionality but now many of those are broken in gutenberg
2 – The number of downloads of classic press is a move away from Gutenberg, showing dissatisfaction, rather than a move towards something different.

As such the millions of downloads of classic editor shows a strong dislike to Gutenberg. Comparing it to other visual editor downloads is a bad comparison as they are not the same thing.

As such the downloads of Classic Editor show a strong feeling against Gutenberg.

Are we getting censored for having a calm and reasonable discussion now?

Why wasn’t I notified? Why is it that stuff just goes quietly missing? Why cant I see the previous versions to compare my mistakes and learn from them?

You posted an at ping to the “otto” account. I’ve fixed the issue and he won’t be getting any spurious emails anymore. It’s been a long running problem that I should have fixed ages ago. It’s fixed now, and I’ve sent proper apologies. My bad, not yours.

Totally concur with people’s concerns about this update and I’d just like to urge WordPress to PLEASE address them in a later update, ASAP.

I’m not against the block design idea in principle, it’s more the execution of it. I’ve just made my first blog post on 5.0, and I experienced a lot of bugs; some huge text formatting issues which have placed paragraph text in very weird places; and a lot of error messages on my PC for any edits I make on the mobile app.

I love WordPress and to me the format has huge advantages over competitors, but the execution of this update has been extremely poor and I really hope you work to address these problems.

The Classic Editor plugin has over 2 MILLION installs now, and I can not believe that doesn’t tell people something. I downloaded it after Gutenberg ate some of my content on my primary site, then was setting up a new site and tried to use it and it did the same thing there.

Blow up my stuff once, shame on you, blow it up twice, shame on me, there won’t be a third time, period.
