WP 5.0 and the joy of having backups

  • I test migrated 2 projects to WP 5.0. The result is totally messy. I cannot find stuff and in each installation more than one plugin was broken.

    What is way more annoying is that customers dont understand how stuff works. Was the new UI even tested with “normal” users. Even my very sophisticated early adopters cannot handle stuff. Everything takes more clicks than before and that costs them time&money.

    We had a perfeclty oiled machine with Wordrpess 4.x. I dont get where the obsession with the editor is coming from. Most of the bulk of the work in WordPress is done with plugins.

    Today we restored the old version from backups and decided to do test-runs with classicpress in the coming year.

    Making the core WordPress system easier and work better for users is always going to be the priority. That’ll never change.

    Thats not me to decide. It is up to customers that want an easy and streamlined process. Plugins provide a highly optimized way to do that. A slim WordPress always provided the perfect base.

    Are serious there? Easier? Work better?

    The only thing this thing has done is make live of my writers HARDER. You are not the one that have to manage people calling and mailing you discovering your “gutenberg” nightmare and rushing you to revert ASAP. I have to manage that, I have to manage installing a plugin for a thing that should never have been changed in the first. I havze to manage angry people discovering a thing they din’t asked, don’t understand and don’t want to understand.

    It would be time that you realise that you are wrong and that people are not happy. gutenberg should never have been released or only as a plugin.

    And yes it is a good thing with the normal editor I could have blog that stayed with pure vanilla for people that liked it, other customized to people needs with plugins adding function that they needed. THAT is the good a simple editor that you can customize as needed. What gutenberg is clearly not.

    Your “vision” is not the good one you’re putting pressure on people to use something they didn’t asked for and didn’t needed.

    The reality that you’re not willing to grasp is that if you don’t revert back willingly people won’t use WordPress any more. They already are WordPress 4.6.x has been already forked. People are looking toward these fork, they are waiting for you to make a move an scrap Gutenberg, if you don’t they will be very happy to move to something else. i am myself looking at them.

    That’ll never change.

    In the process of having to reset to an older back-up, just like the original poster in this thread.
    I blog 3 times per week for the last 4 years and this morning, couldn’t even get a post constructed thanks to block errors.

    What a waste of time and why????????????????

    Please revert back to old editor. I understand you can work around with a plugin, we didn’t look for yet another plugin to fix something we didn’t want in the first place. I am fully with the previous poster on please change your vision!
