WP 5.8 what is happening to the widget area?

  • I keep hearing about the widget area being Gutenberged..
    Will there be a way to keep them as they are now?
    I already run the classic editor and Have NO intention of going blocks.
    Will I be forced to use the ‘new widget area’ ??
    Is there somewhere to actually view what is being done? (no i do not want to load a beta version to see)

    well lucky for me there is a Classic Widgets plugin.
    I just hope it works when 5.8 is loaded.
