• I upgraded to 2.8 last night, and am having issues with wp-admin. I disabled the WPtouch iPhone plugin and that at least gained me access to my dashboard. However, the right column that was visible in the dashboard main page is not there, and screen options will not drop down and let me try to add or remove things. For example, before the upgrade, I could see stats in that column. Now, only the left column shows with comments. Any suggestions?

  • I deleted the wp-includes folder prior to upload as it states in the guide and FileZilla reports no failures.

I haven’t had any problems so I’m wondering if it’s a php/mysql problem as in what version is installed on your host.

Not a php/mysql issue. I have another WordPress site and it upgraded to 2.8 just fine, but it only uses two plugins. Those same two plugins on my other site break the dash. I’ve re-uploaded them. I’ve done everything. It doesn’t matter.

    update:

i thought it was nextgen gallery, but for me the issue is i can run any plugins i have installed EXCEPT i cannot have nextgen gallery and wp-polls activated at the same time, otherwise my dashboard stops functioning.

one or the other is fine, but both creates some (i’m guessing) jquery issue.

For me I could not access my dashboard at all (page not available error). I had to kill my Google analytics plugin. Seeking replacement now.

Here is an interesting solution for naughty plugins:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/278896

I was able to fix my Google analytics using this method.

Certain themes seem to interfere with the Dashboard too. Buffet Framework kills options animations, and right hand widgits on the Dashboard. Switching themes fixes that. OpenID, and several other popular plugins break the options on dashboard, and some even break the Settings > General page.

Since the admin panel urged me to update to 2.8 the easy way I upgraded automatic, spoiled as I was by the usual easy upgrade it normally gives on plugins etc. Then it al fell apart, I couldn’t get into the admin panel anymore. I’m quite a newbie so I didn’t know what to do. Went through the update guide partly to downgrade to 2.7.1. again since i see so many 2.8 problem theories on this forum. Only replaced the wp-admin and wp-includes files with the ones from 2.7.1 using FTP, now it’s back to 2.7.1. and works great again. I think I just wait until 2.8.1 shows up…

The problem with admin that yacumos has posted a pic of is what my admin looks like. Just text links in a long line one under the other with the info that should be to the right of the menu down at the bottom under all the text links.
    See https://i40.tinypic.com/2cctgjs.jpg
Mine did not look right in any browser FF, Safari, IE.
FTPed 2.8 several times with and with out plugin’s.
What is up with this 2.8 admin problem?
For now rolled back to 2.7.1.
    HELP!

After 8 time upgrading to 2.8 and the admin not working properly I AM DONE.
I have wore out my ftp program. Lots of peeps have this same problem. Hello any body got any idea’s? The site seem to work fine just the admin is broke.

i reinstall the 2.8, and it worked again ??

I agree that the very least there should be an auto roll back option when a release comes out like this. Also… what’s wrong with beta testing with a few hundred users first??

I had the same issue, and this was without any plugins installed at all. The dashboard just suddenly stopped loading/working.
This is on a fresh 2.8 install too, no extras at all – no theme adjusts.. nothing but still no dashboard!!
