• I created a new user in the administration and wanted to give him only option that can work on editing themes when hi is logged in the administration through wp-admin, other sections would be locked and impossible to touch. I tried a couple of different plugins but nothing. Last plugin that I tried Advanced Access Manager would not let me login to wp-admin if i tryed to log into the administration with a new created user using another browser. Please help me someone, this is very important for me.

    Thanks in advance

    You’re welcome ??

You might want to try Role Scoper.

Thank you, Shaun. Have you tryed?

I’ve used that plugin in the past, for other purposes related to user rights management. Haven’t tried specifically what you are looking to do, but based on the plugin description it should work.

Although, going back and reading your original question…can you clarify what you want this user to be able to do?

Just edit theme files? Or access the Appearance menu and sub-menus (Widgets, etc.)? Or do you just want to prevent access to Posts, Pages and Users?

Thank you for your response Shaun

I have created a new member in the wp-administration (wp-admin/user-new) and I want to just give him permission to log in and edit theme (wp-admin/theme-editor.php) and all of the other options in the administration to be locked and unavailable to him for use.

Your best bet really is to just give this person FTP access to your web server, rather than giving them access to the WP-Admin area as a user.

The problem with just granting access to the WordPress theme editor is, if this person makes a typo or gets a fatal error while editing your functions.php, he/she will not be able to fix it because wp-admin will be broken. Panic and chaos will ensue.

Furthermore, if you are trusting someone with your website files, you should probably be able to trust them with your website. It’s kind of like not wanting to give your mechanic the keys to your car.

All that said, if you need to do what you are saying I think you’re going to need someone to write you a custom plugin. It’s a very unusual request and I don’t think there is an existing plugin that can do it.
