    I accidentally downloaded my Twenty Eleven theme files and I attempted to abort it but it kept downloading. I saw several messages about error in file while it was downloading. Afterwards, I couldn’t access my WordPress Dashboard through wp-admin and when I try to the browser screen is blank under the address of https://roundhousetalk.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php. I deleted the Twenty Eleven theme and downloaded and then uploaded a fresh Twenty Eleven theme folder. Same result. When I go to my URL for my site it the content comes up without any error but still unable to access the Admin Dashboard. Is there anything I can do?

  • Use FTP to completely delete the twentyeleven folder again and then upload a fresh one. The old folder may not have gotten completely replaced, and there’s a php error on your pages, too, having to do with the theme. See Filezilla and FTP Clients ? WordPress Codex.

    Also rename the plugins folder to old-plugins to force deactivate them all; white screens can be causes by plugin glitches.

    Ok, did it just like you advised. The error now is the following:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare twentyeleven_excerpt_length() (previously declared in /home/roundh9/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven-child/functions.php:335) in /home/roundh9/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/functions.php on line 337

    Looks like you have a child theme called twentyeleven-child. Where do you get that? Can you upload a new copy of that? The child theme requires the parent theme called twentyeleven in order to work.

    Ok, now I have my dashboard back. I’m missing the plugins to access at the bottom of the dashboard menu on the left side of the page. I assume those show up in the Child theme but when I uploaded the child theme directory back into the theme directory, I’m back where I started. Do I have to recreate the child theme directory and rebuild the style.css file? The following is how my home page looks without the child theme files:

    And then it shows the content in proper format beneath it.

    Well, you don’t need a child theme unless you are going to customize it more so than the standard copy of twentyeleven. You can simply activate twentyeleven and add your header image to that and forget about the child them. Right now, you don’t have anything else in your child theme style sheet, so the child theme isn’t doing anything at all.

    If you’re missing dashboard items, maybe some of the core WordPress files and folders are missing. I’d carefully upload replacements of those, but don’t overwrite wp-config.php or the wp-content folder, where all your images, plugins and themes are.
