• I upgraded today to 4.1 and now I can’t load the Dashboard. The left side menu still works but when I try to open dashboard either a white page appears reading “This page can’t be displayed.” OR – it opens but then my Avast repeatedly detects some sort of malware called JS:ScriptIP-inf[Trj] (supposedly “moved to the chest”) I’ve tried deactivating all of my plugins, but that didn’t do it. Help?

I’m sorry you all are having trouble. With which hosts do your sites reside? Are there any logged errors related to this? If you define WP_DEBUG as true in wp-config.php, any related errors will be displayed in your browser.

Would a simple subscriber user see these errors in the back end? If you don’t mind allowing this, it may be helpful for us to observe the issue by logging in as a subscriber. Either open your sites to registration or create such a user and share the credentials here. You can delete any such users later on. Never share any credentials for users with more capabilities than Subscriber.

Thanks for jumping in bcworkz. I’m ok with allowing someone to take a look – but such a rookie not sure how? [Either open your sites to registration or create such a user and share the credentials here.] Just tell me how to do that? Thanks again…

Oops! I didn’t think this through very well. This isn’t the easiest task when you cannot access your dashboard and presumably not new user nor general settings as well.

You will need to directly access your database through phpMyAdmin. If your host did not provide a direct link, you can usually access it through your hosting control panel. Creating users this way is rather tricky, so let’s just enable registrations.

Once you’re in phpMyAdmin (or your host’s equivalent DB management tool ) identify your WP database in the left sidebar and click on it. This displays all the tables. Click on the wp_options table (the ‘wp’ portion may be something else). This displays the first page of the options. Locate the option_name “users_can_register”, it’s usually near the beginning, use search if you need to.

In the next option_value column adjacent to users_can_register double click the 0 and change it to 1, then hit Enter. That’s all, but let’s be safe, locate the “default_role” option_name and confirm the adjacent option_value is “subscriber”. Exit phpMyAdmin.

If you are in your cPanel, please locate the file manager and open wp-config.php for editing. Change the definition of WP_DEBUG from false to true and save the change. Close the file manager and log out of your cPanel.

Report back here when you’ve done all of this and we’ll see if we can glean any more information. Please do tell us who your host is, it could be a useful clue.

    Hi men,

I solved the problem by disabling the plugin google analytics dashboard wp

    should contact the author?

Yes. This problem is solved by disabling this plugin of Google Analytics. The author should be contacted to look into this.

I also confirmed that this issue appear only on Avast and some other tools through which I scanned my site didn’t report this.

Deactivated google analytics and issue resolved! Unsure if avast is reporting a false but it was bloody annoying!

Well, I just tried deactivating Google analytics plugin also – now the whole site won’t load at all….! Says….”This page can’t be displayed” Ugggg!

Can you post what antivirus edition are you people using because I’m unable to replicate it using Avast Free.

    (@jveegh)

    Avast free edition.

I did just try to log in to my site using a new computer – and everything is fine! So, I’m convinced it has to be related to the Avast message of that virus…JS:ScriptIP-inf[Trj]

I dont suppose anyone has managed to resolve this yet so we can have the plugin active as well as avast without avast having a hissy?
