    Multisite came up quite a bit on the searches I did before posting here. I had hopes for it but it looks like the only options with Multisite is to use sub folders or sub domains:

    Compared with a typical single WordPress installation a network installation has additional considerations. You must decide if you want to use subdomains or subfolders and how you want to manage them.

    Whereas I want to use unique domains for each site.

    You may want to use Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificates (https://letsencrypt.org/), they are free and easy to install, then you can access securely all your domains without relying on site5.com. If all the websites you mention are all hosted in the same server, Let’s Encrypt supports to register multiple domains in one single certificate, so that is not a problem either.
