• Resolved mvmadmin

    (@mvmadmin)

after trying everything known to resolve issues with media library, had to re-install responsive theme, then uploaded backup files to server to over-ride files in new install(plugins, themes, etc).
now when I go to wp-admin for my site I get a wp install screen but its already installed on my server//

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

hey thanks, I’m back inbut 90% of my content is missing????
    databse maybe?

Could be. From what I can tell, the database wasn’t upgraded with this release. So restoring a 3.5 database backup should work.

otherwise im screwed big time. about 20 pages of articles and content to rewrite, ouch!!!!!

is backing up the database everytime you write a post advisable, im used to html where you can see what you wrote in multiple programs, copy and paste your content anywhere, this sucks

Backing up after every post is possible but, if you write a few posts a week, that might be a little OTT in my opinion. Running a backup regularly) say anything from once a week to once a day) should be sufficient.

it feels like being in russia but you don’t speak russian because most advise is unintentially very complex but most techies think they are speaking english but they are speaking russian to folks like me.
Oh just do this and try that, i wish it was thate easy. im going to be up all night trying to get this content back or re-writing it all over again (20 pages)

Do you have any database backups?

    Thread Starter mvmadmin

    (@mvmadmin)

database backups are on the server at IPower Hosting. i only have local backups of my public_html directory..and I don’t know if those are the ones I need, i’m trying to figure that out now, im in MySQL databse manager

There a number of backup plugins that you can use to automate your database backups.

thanks, boy my host, most hosts sure don’t try to help newbies much.
thanks for the link, do you have a favorite database backup utility?

    I use https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/dbc-backup/

It’s an older plugin but due to the way in which it works (by hooking into Phpmyadmin), it seems to work just fine. No problems on WP 3.5 here.

im going to do all of my writing in Word from now on. This is rediculous, i spent 3 weeks writing content and its all gone!
that way i have an english, readable copy of my text that is easily accessible. i can’t put a bunch of coded gibberish on my site. with html you can always see your content and copy/paste/edit/whatever
