    Hi Peops,

I switched the URL on my site (the old domain was https://www.juliawagner.at) and now I can’t login to WP anymore. I only get shown a login prompt of the browser not the classic WP login. I already changed wp_options and any other reference to the old url in the DB and I also added the site urls to wp-config file on the server. But nothing seems to help.
There was no change in WP setup or something else because both domains showed (and still show) to the same subdir on the Server, I just switched the main and the second domain.
I already searched but most just suggest to alter wp_options DB which I already did, so maybe you have an idea what I’m missing.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • That prompt appears to be from a password protected directory rather than WordPress. Possibly through the use of Apache .htaccess and .htpasswd files, or maybe you were using a security plugin that did that for you?

[edit] It looks like you might be hosted with World4You Internet Services. Here is some info from their FAQ that might help https://www.world4you.com/faq/en/webhosting.html#article-verzeichnisschutz

The thing is why would it pop up now?
wp-admin and wp-stas are secured but they have been since day 1 of the wp installation
I edited now the pwd for admin but still no change in behavior.
And I didn’t change anything in the configuration compared to three days ago. I just switched main and secondary domain and substitued all across the DB the domains so I have my links and uploads etc correctly.

My best guess would be maybe your .htaccess file(s) need to be regenerated or repaired due to the change in domain names/site locations. I’m not sure, but that’s definitely not a WordPress password prompt.

Have you reached out to see if your hosts support group can be of any assistance yet?

I have an help desk call open for almost a week but I’d need to make some posts now so I’m looking for support all over.

My htaccess file has also been changed it wouldn’t work without it but it’s small and simple:

    Redirect /index.html https://www.juliadenise.at/jd/

Turn on the “show hidden files” option in your FTP client and then navigate to your /wp-admin directory to see if there happens to be an .htaccess file inside the directory.

There was I renamed it and now the issue is gone. Now wp mocks that in one file there’s a wrong cookie path but since I don’t use cookies I don’t care for now and will look into the mentioned file.
    Thnx a lot.

    You’re welcome!
