• Dear guys,

I am trying to add a password to my wp-admin directory. But when i do so either the /wp-admin crashes or when it works it asks for the password in the main page aswell. So whenever a visitor visits he has to see the request.

Do you have any idea how can i do this properly and how do i fix this?

Thank you so much in advance.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Why? What are you trying to accomplish?

I have made the site for a client. He has sent it for ACUNETIX SECURITY test which showed an alert which requires

Add server-side password protection (such as BasicAuth) to the /wp-admin/ directory.

I have done this what this links suggests
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-password-protect-your-wordpress-admin-wp-admin-directory/

But this configuration requires the visitor to put the username and password aswell.

There’s no need for that at all. A decent (strong) password and two factor auth is all that’s needed to properly secure a WP login. (I use either WordFence’s 2FA or the plugin “google authenticator”.)

Did both of them? But the client doesn’t accept those unless it is done the acunetix way?
Sorry if this sounds rude? Does this mean you don’t have any idea how i can do this?

Thank you very much for your time dear Sir.

    >> both of them <<

No, one or the other. As I install WordFence on most sites, I use it’s 2FA feature.

As a dev, it’s part of your responsibility to educate your client. Anyhow, blocking wp-admin via htpasswd is going to create all sorts of issues. If you really, really need to do this, then there are other tutorials.

And, no, it doesn’t seem rude at all. ??

I am sorry once again if that came as rude from my side. Wasn’t my intention. I’ve tried explaining to him in every way but he doesn’t want to understand.

Thank you so much for your time.

Been there. Done that. ?? I’m so glad I don’t do that for a living any more.
