• Hi,

I’m new to WP, I think I have it installed ok but I’m a bit confused…

I have a website up since two or three years, somebody set it up for me. Now my friend installed WP on my server but I’m not sure if he quite finished. After he installed WP on my server, I created a MySQL database (there was none before) and followed instructions to rename the wp-config-sample.php and followed these instructions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php#Security_Keys

But now I don’t know how to put WP version under my domain name. Fed up whith trying to figure out where can I see if WP is installed ok and how to access it, I tried barbaramilavec.com/wp and it was there indeed… but it asked me to enter info and click install which I did and now I have access to blog editing.

I’m confused cause I didn’t do all the steps (since my friend did and he’s too busy to help now) and it wasn’t done in the exact same order as given in WP instructions but it looks like it’s ok.

    My main questions are actually:
Does all this mean that WP installed correctly and completely now so I can go on with creating a new website?
How to put this new WP version of my site under my original domain name (barbaramilavec.com) and not barbaramilavec.com/wp
    and
can I do that later, when I finish the work on my new website (install template, upload files etc.) or is it easier to do it before?

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for help in advance.

  • you indeed have a complete and working install

get it the way you want it – then move it to your root – or main domain name

when you move it, you will need to rename or delete your current index.html in root so wordpress’ index.php will work

    Great, thanks!

New to this forum, so after reading from here, if I post this in the wrong spot, forgive me. Here’s my problem.
I just purchased a new domain, (and I already have 2 domains in www.ads-software.com).

It took me a very long and very confusing time (nearly 2 weeks) to figure out how to build a www.ads-software.com site. (The 5 minute installation might work for some people, but I could not even figure out how to start it. This was probably the hardest blog setup I have ever done) Anyway, after 1 additional week, I finally have a blog 90% completed and monetized, because of the video’s for the plugins and software walked me through it.

Now I’m back to square 1. Lost! I tried to setup a new website using www.ads-software.com, but I can’t. When I log in, it shows the existing website files. I do not want to “Add a Sub-domain” to that site (because it is a 100% different niche site), but want to do a new webpage.

I have hosting with HostGator, and downloaded the 5 minute installation. I see the files, but do not know how to view a page from there, if possible. Anyway,

    My real question is:

Can I have 2 (Primary webpages) or more DOMAIN SITES (not Sub-domains), and if so, how do I get to a “new www.ads-software.com page”? Just show me the steps to do, after I get that down, I can build the rest with the software I bought by following the videos again.

    Thanks in advance

mhundl – Please make a NEW post next time. You keep taking over other people’s posts with non-related issues ?? It’s considered rude.

The … easiest way would be MultiSite with a domain mapping plugin, but that’t not really easy for the novice.

    See: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network
    And: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
