• I recently have had a lot of trouble with my wordpress acting up. I am unable to go into the customizer or update my menus for example as I get the error the page cannot be reached once I hit submit. I am using GoDaddy Managed WordPress hosting which is a major mistake their support just keeps telling me that everything looks fine on their end and to flush the cache which I have tried and does absolutely nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Hunter.
I use GoDaddy on several installs and have not had issues in terms of GoDaddy keeping the lights on. Strangely their phone support is much better than their online chat support, for what that is worth. But they do draw the line at providing application support (i.e. as long as WordPress is running and the database is up, from then on it’s up to you.

In my experience some themes perform better than others. I am not sure if this is GoDaddy related, but the issue you are describing is similar to issues I have seen (for instance with the media uploader hanging). The only solution I have found is to switch themes or overwrite the WP-includes folder with a fresh set of theme files.

This said, if you can give us a more detailed eplanation of the issue, we might be able to help – for example assigning more memore to WordPress can be done on GoDaddy by editing the wp-config.php file.

The problem involves using the customizer it does not load and doing simple things such as adding a new menu item it takes like 2 minutes once I hit save changes only to receive a page not found message. It is also very hard as many of the fixes it seems cannot be done without access to the CPanel and since I’m on godaddy managed hosting I do not have access to that.

When I have encountered a challenge like that, it is worth trying several things:

    1) selectively disable plug-ins and see if that sorts the issue.
    2) try with an alternative theme and see if it is theme-related
    3) If you kept a fresh copy of the files, overwrite the entire wp-includes folder via FTP (no need for CPanel to do this) and start with a fresh copy.

Please also let us know if this has just started acting up or if this is a new install (and has been an issue from the initial install). What theme are you using? I was using Avada on GoDaddy and had to boost the memory allocation for better performance.

I will try those that you mentioned shortly. It is an issue from the intial install I believe but it has been getting worse. I am using the Real Places theme.

I talked with GoDaddy support and walked her through what I was trying to do as far as adding a new menu item. She was able to do it no problem on her end however on mine when I hit save changes I get an error page not found. I checked my firewall, cleared cookies, and cache. Could it be something with my computer ?

I tried doing the change on my phone over LTE and it worked perfectly so I have narrowed it down to my wifi/internet connection hmmm

Hi, so it sounds like you narrowed down the issue. Depending on your router speed, sometimes it works faster to have a physical cable running to the router (even if it is wireless).

Yeah I have the connection wired and it still does not work :/
