WP Better Security Removal Tool

If you can still access the admin part of a site, just deactivate and uninstall iThemes Security.

If you can’t access a site, you will have to do it manually, no removal tool will help you. You will need ftp or shell access to the site’s server so you can delete the /wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/ folder from the site.

To go back to the pre-debacle version of Better WP Security, download this… https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/better-wp-security.3.6.5.zip

Unzip the file. Upload the better-wp-security folder to your site’s /wp-content/plugins/ folder. Log in to your site, enable the plugin and set it up. It might even have your old version 3.6 settings in there. Double check them.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the strength of iThemes Security and the work that you guys are doing on it. I’ve submitted the request and do hope that it is implemented. I had stopped using the Plug-in on additional sites because of the extensive changes it made in the WordPress database and files, and the degree of difficulty in reversion to the original site. It almost became a situation where the cure was worse than the disease.

Having a removal tool, uninstall tool or, even a removal checklist to follow would go a long way in putting us users back in the comfort zone.

Try my thread about removing database entries, I tried to make it as simple and direct as possible, with little room for error with screenshots. For complete removal, instead of renaming the folder in my instructions, you can delete it.

Hi there – have a BIG and emergency Problem… just tried to deactive iThemes Security to find a problem with an other Plugin. After I deactivated iThemes Security – my Site was down. No chance to reach admin, or webSite, or smth else. I tried to rename the /iThemes_folder in plugins but nothing happen… No my site is down and i cant find the problem..

Let me make certain I fully understand your response. You guys take a functioning plugin. Then promise us numerous cool features and a PAID (!!!) version. Your next release breaks thousands of sites, after more than a dozen upgrades. Many continue to have problem. You refuse to acknowledge the problem or even attempt to explain.

Now people are asking for a “removal tool”. Think that sums up it.

And your response is we want YOU to take time from your busy day fixing our lousy plugin and submit a feature request.
