WP Classifieds Plugin

  • I found three WP classified ad plugins in the plugin directory. Two of three are defunct, abandoned projects and malfunctioning.

    1. Edgeio Classifieds (last updated in 2007) compatible to WP 2.3
    2. Junxter Classifieds (last updated in 2007) compatible to WP 2.1
    3. Wp-Classifieds (last updated in SEP 2008) compatible to WP 2.5

    I installed wp-classifieds and can’t get it to work. I can create categories but cannot create ads. I’ve reviewed posts, documentation and posted a message for the author.

    WordPress is the best of the best and yet we don’t have a functioning Classifieds plugin. Is there anything the programming committee can do to facilitate the creation of a functioning classifieds plugin?

    I read somewhere 60-70 people worked on the last upgrade. 1-2 of these dedicated to this plugin and the community would be very happy!

  • Of course you might consider posting a “New Job Request” [1] to have a professional upgrade the plugin.

    The WordPress team works on the core project and typically doesn’t ‘maintain’ plugins.

    Cool. Didn’t know the jobs thing existed. Impressive. I should really dig into the WP thing and create some plugins… Thank you.

    I too am trying to use the WP Classified plugin. All I get is a “404 Not Found” error and no support, as of yet, from the creator. I love the idea of this plugin but it just isn’t working.
