wp-config no permission no ownership

  • New boy on the block and its going very slowly!

    I’m attempting to have WordPress run locally on my laptop with Ubuntu 11.10.
    I’ve installed Lampp and downloaded WordPress. Now is the time to WP-Config but my WordPress folder in Var/www is ‘owned’ by wordpress so i can edit but not save the changes. there’s lots of references to 777 and 640 but no real working tips available.

    Please can somebody give me a secure script for Chmod or Chown so i can get this next stage of the task completed….?

    The files is still named wordpress…..
