wp-config-sample.php – critical issue?

    I am reviewing my Site Health Issues and I am receiving the following critical issue:

    Background updates are not working as expected

    I have a red X for: Some files are not writable by WordPress: wp-config-sample.php

    This is a sample file, can I delete it or rename it so I won’t get an error?

    Yes, you can safely delete wp-config-sample.php.

    As you said, this is only the sample configuration file which is used to create the actual running configuration file wp-config.php.

    If you have a running WordPress site already, this file is not used at all.

    That said, the presence of the file should also not cause any issue, and in no way is it a security risk.
