• Dears,

    In https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Hardening_WordPress
    It says :

Note that wp-config.php can be stored ONE directory level above the WordPress (where wp-includes resides) installation. Also, make sure that only you (and the web server) can read this file (it generally means a 400 or 440 permission).

I try to change the file permission wp-config.php to 400 or 440 by FTP but it refuse and automaticaly make it 640.

what is the problem ? or i have to make this file with 666 permission as it was.

    Plz tell me

    thanks

  • Some web hosts won’t allow you to make certain permisison changes. 640 is good enough for most cases.

Could be inheriting permission from a a higher up directory than the one you are trying to change the permission on? Check to make sure that your hosting provider isn’t doing this puposefully as songdogtech suggested as well.
