We’ve had the blog at https://scrapgirls.com/blog/ up and running for years, and recently we’ve been having issues with images disappear that were uploaded through WordPress and put into posts using the default wysiwyg editor in WordPress.

    I read in the codex:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress#Step_4:_Upload_the_files

That the wp-config.php file should be uploaded into the folder where WordPress is installed. Then in searching for a fix for our issue I found an old posts that said

“It needs to go in the top ie. where you see wp-config-sample.php and wp-login.php as well as the folders wp-content/ , wp-admin/ and wp-includes/.”

I noticed that awhile back when I downloaded a copy of our blog onto my hard drive that I have a wp-config file in the wp-content folder on my hard drive, but it isn’t on the server.

We switched hosts in about May and it looks like that is when the wp-config.php file was last changed on the server in the blog folder where WordPress was installed. I compared the file I had on my hard drive and the changed file and there were differences. Since I’m not the only one with access to the server I’m wondering if either the company that helps manage server issues for us by working with our host or another admin deleted the wp-config.php file in the wp-content folder and if that could be causing our issues.

Does that sound like a possible cause?

I also meant to ask if the wp-config file is supposed to be copied into the wp-content, wp-admin and wp-includes folders?

Normally it would only be in the same folder that holds the other folders, wp-content, wp-includes and wp-admin. If you have a folder above the wordpress folder you can put it there to increase security.
