wp-config.php… where to put it

It needs to go in the top ie. where you see wp-config-sample.php and wp-login.php as well as the folders wp-content/ , wp-admin/ and wp-includes/.

Thanks for that. It’s not completely clear. In my ftp browser/dialogue box I only have folders. I located where you meant but it was in httpdocs – WordPress. I assume that’s the root?

Moving to the next install stage (presuming I put the config bit in the right place), I can’t seem to get joy from https://example.com/wp-admin/install.php (obviously changing ‘example’ to my domain name).

Do you know why it would come up with: Not Found
The requested document was not found on this server.

Have you uploaded every single folder and file from when you unzipped the WordPress package? You should have 24 files and 3 folders when you unzip – the 3 folders are wp-admin, wp-content, and wp-includes. You then copy and paste these in to the top of your web site (ie. not in to the folder images, unless you want to run your blog from mydomain.com/images).

Upload wp-config.php in to the same place as wp-login.php.

Then open mydomain.com.

Also, if you had 2.33 and you’re now upgrading to 2.7 you need to overwrite your old WordPress files – so you need to find these and put your version of WordPress there instead.

I’ve no idea… I only just ditched my old easy site today, and started on Purple Cloud with WordPress – I installed WordPress from within it and it seems to have uploaded everything because I can see all of those folders in my ftp dialogue box on my server.

wp-config.php is in there with wp-login.php.

No idea why it didn’t work.
One thing – earlier today I altered the index.html to read that I’m under reconstruction. Because that’s still on there, is that why this isn’t working? So if you go to my site you just see the index page.

Delete your index.html just in case. Although it shouldn’t interfere with the installation, it will stop WordPress from running.

Okay, that’s now gone but it hasn’t solved anything. Now at my domain you get a forbidden message with the 403 forbidden message.

I get the 404 not found message at https://mydomain.com/wp-admin/install.php

If you installed it from within PurpleCloud it might be worth asking their technical support as they’ll know what you do/don’t need to do on their servers.

I can’t do much else for you over the forum – speak to your host…

Okay so maybe the reason this isn’t working is because my server has v.2.3 files and the config doc that I edited & uploaded was from my applications folder (which is v.2.7). Oh goodness. I’ve just realised the error. Could this be it? I’m not sure that my ISP is compatible with v.2.7 – I’ll have to ask them.

Indeed, ask them and replace all your 2.33s with 2.7 if it is compatible.
