• I’m trying to add an externally-hosted image to a blog post. I’ve tried doing this by copy/pasting pre-written code into the HTML editor in WP, and also by using the “Add Image” popup tool.

In both cases, the code appears, I then Publish or Update the page… and WordPress has changed the external link to one pointing to a similarly-named (and non-existent) image in my uploaded_images folder.

Erm… why? I don’t want to download the image and host it myself. That defeats the purpose of pointing to an external image, surely?

  • Make sure that you use the full image url.

Thanks, Esmi – I am. Absolutely for sure. Copied, pasted and tested.

I also found that it’s not doing it *all* the time. I’ve managed to get the posts up by luck more than anything, I think. Now they’re there I daren’t go in and edit them in case it self-corrects again!
