I was really hoping that this plugin was going to be the solution to my dilemma, but unfortunately I’ve hit a snag.

I am using WP Courseware plugin that has a post type of Course Unit. The plugin works fine with posts and pages post types, but I get no response when I assign it to a Course Unit page.

I have even configured the custom post type and I still get zilch.

I did notice that when I configured my custom post type the plugin had the Course Unit post type listed as Course Units, not Course Unit.

I’m thinking that may be the problem, but I have no idea where I can correct that in the plugin template. Or if I even can.

Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hey there TorahBoy,

    How are you doing today?

I’ve made a quick test to see if there is any issue with replacing sidebars on custom post type single pages but everything seems to be working fine (tested with Product post type from our MarketPress plugin).

As for this not working with WP Courseware plugin that would be hard for me to check as this is a premium plugin. When selecting post type in Appearance -> Widgets for sidebar location, post type’s ‘name’ is being used there which is generally plural so you might want to check that where you’re registering this post type.

I’d have to advise on seeking assistance with WP Courseware plugin authors as they have access to both plugins and are most familiar with the plugin and how it works (code wise). If there is anything we can help with please let me know ??

    Cheers,

    Hi Bjorn,

    Thanks for the reply.

So it the WPCourseware plugin registering the wrong post_type name?

The post type WordPress shows is “Course Unit”

In your plugin, When I check “As Main Sidebar for selected Post Types” The dropdown displays “Course Units” plural.

So it that coming from your plugin or WPCourseware?

It’s a bit confusing to me.

    Thanks.

Problem solved thanks to installing Custom Post Type Editor.

I changed the post_type name of Course Units to Course Unit and it now assigns the appropriate sidebars to the chosen pages when I check the “As Main Sidebar for selected Post Types”.

Not sure whose plugin is responsible to the gaff, but I found a solution to this.

    Thanks again.

    Hey again,

Glad to hear that you managed to solve this one and thank you for posting the solution so other members who are having the same issue can benefit from it ??

I’ve never used Custom Post Type Editor so I’m not sure how it functions exactly, generally post types name should be plural you can see here.

Our plugin uses WP function get_post_types which should return the value of the post type how it was registered. Not really sure how you did exactly configured that post type so it’s possible that mistake was made there in the name of the post type.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

    Cheers,
    Bojan
