• Hello.

I’ve been having the following issue for months, and have been unsuccessful getting assistance on it.

I’d greatly appreciate any assistance on this if possible:

My WP Dashboard shows that I have 12 Updates, but when I click on the Updates link to view the Updates, there are none listed.

And when I look in my Installed Plugins (or Themes), I have no way of knowing which ones need updated, So as a result, I am having to track each installed plugin (or theme), and figure a way to update it manually.

Can anyone explain what is happening? Do I need to re-install WP (which gets updated automatically, and is when I started noticing these issues)?

    Thanks so much in advance,

    Jacquie…

wslade…OK then, but once I find the troublesome plugin, do I try to update that one first, and see if it succeeds or not? Because it could succeed, and there be no data, thus putting me back to square one again…

    Am I thinking this correctly?

I think you are better at this than I am. When you turn on a plugin that kills your numbers and update data, just make a note of the plugin name then turn it back off. Continue this until you have turned on all the plugins once. At this point there will be one or maybe more that have been turned on and back off.

Look at your list of plugins that need an update. Check to see if any turned off plugins need upgrades. If they do need upgrades, go directly to that plugin in the plugins list and update just this one plugin. After it’s updated try turning it on to see if it kills the list – if it kills the list turn it back off.

If there are plugins that are turned off but don’t show that it needs an upgrade, post the name of the plugin here.

    wslade…update…

Thus far I have re-activated each plugin, and my Dashboard –> Updates still shows 13, and I can still see the list, and then I logged out completely to see if there was a problem there…and so far it’s still OK.

I am now going to update each plugin individually. I’ll do some from inside the Dashboard –> Updates list and some from inside the Dashboard –> Plugins –> Installed Plugins list to see if there is a difference.

Thanks wslade…I’ll post update when finished.

I truly appreciate your assistance, and your time. Thanks a million…

    That’s great news!

    wslade…update

OK, mission complete, I have updated every plugin, and nothing went wrong, so I don’t know why this is happening. It seems the only fix when this happens is to switch to a different theme and deactivate all plugins. Seems so strange…Because after I went through all that, and reactivated and updated each plugin one-by-one, I didn’t have any issue, so all though things are back, I’m concerned I’ll have to keep doing this everytime Dashboard –> Updates has a number but no list…I’ll be watching this one…so weird!

Much thanks again wslade for weathering the storm with me til the end…hahaha! Have a great night!

Sometimes the box just needs a swift kick.

Maybe you won’t have the issue again. But if you do, you know what to do to get it going.

Please don’t suffer again for months if this continues to happen. We can find the cause and fix it.

OK, hahaha, I’ll remember that wslade! And I certainly hope I don’t have the issue again…but yes, you are right…I’ll know what to do…give it a swift kick!

The fix from another thread. QUick and easy…

Depending on whether the update refers to WordPress, a plugin or a theme, it may help to flush out the transient data..

3 options exist in the options table..

    _site_transient_update_core
    _site_transient_update_themes
    _site_transient_update_plugins

Flush out whichever is misreporting an update..

    If a plugin.. _site_transient_update_plugins
    If a theme.. _site_transient_update_themes
    If WordPress.. _site_transient_update_core

By flush, i mean drop/remove that option(only that option) from the options table.
