    Previously, to define default ordering under the Publisher, Advanced Settings, I would need to refer to my first column as 0, second as 1 etc [e.g. (0,ASC|2,ASC)].

    With a recent update (possibly March 2022) the functionality was added to select the “order by” column from a drop down list of column names. (Great idea!)

    However, I seem to find that the column names are offset by 1 position (similar to the situation when they were referenced by column number commencing at 0).

    I have a table with 3 columns (Column1, Column2, Column3)
    I find, if I want to order by Column3 then I need to select Column2 from the dropdown list. If I want to order by Column2 then I need to select Column1 etc

    This is an easy work around but:
    a) How do I order by Column1? There is obviously no offset name in the dropdown list.
    b) If I select my last Column Name from the List (eg Column3) the table does not display at all.

    Any suggestions?

    I’m trying to reproduce this issue, but it works for me in both, the free and the premium version. Are you on version 5.1.6?

    If so, can you share an export of your publication and publication table so I can reproduce this issue? You can use the contact form on the plugin website if you prefer to share this information in private.

    Thanks Peter for the quick response.

    I’m using the free version but 5.1.6.

    I’ve cloned my site and VPS to a new VPS (without https access though) and deleted a lot of extraneous pages and tables for the demo.

    The problematic publication is on the front page now.

    The ordering issue still seems to be apparent.

    You have an admin account as peter.

    How do I securely get you the password and URL?

    @tonysac123 I want to be clear here.

    @peterschulznl If you do not delete that admin access, if I have any idea or the slightest idea that you logged into the user’s site you will immediately lose forum access on www.ads-software.com. It is that serious and you need to right now reply that you have complied.

    Sorry to be so direct but this is a big deal here.

    Had Peter asked that, and I know he did not, this would be my reply.

    While I know you have the best of intentions, it’s forum policy that you not ask users for admin or server access. Users on the forums aren’t your customers, they’re your open source collaborators, and requesting that kind of access can put you and them at high risk.

    If they are paying customers (such as people who bought a premium service/product from you) then by all means, direct them to your official customer support system. But in all other cases, you need to help them here on the forums.

    Thankfully are other ways to get information you need:

    You get the idea.

    We know volunteer support is not easy, and this guideline can feel needlessly restrictive. It’s actually there to protect you as much as end users. Should their site be hacked or have any issues after you accessed it, you could be held legally liable for damages. In addition, it’s difficult for end users to know the difference between helpful developers and people with malicious intentions. Because of that, we rely on plugin developers and long-standing volunteers (like you) to help us and uphold this particular guideline.

    When you help users here and in public, you also help the next person with the same problem. They’ll be able to read the debugging and solution and educate themselves. That’s how we get the next generation of developers.

    @jdembowski I asked for an export, not a login! I DID NOT LOG IN! I did not even receive the login details. You are accusing me of something I didn’t do, I didn’t ask for and I don’t even have the information to login. Aren’t you overreacting?

    Hi Peter,

    After further investigation it seems I get the ordering problem only if I choose NOT to display all columns in Data Publisher.

    For all columns displayed [Column Names set as *] ordering works as expected.

    If I omit one column from the Column Names box in the publisher data section the output seems to have an ordering offset of 1 and attempting to order by the last column produces an output with no rows.

    If I omit 2 columns from Column Names box in the publisher data section the output seems to have an ordering offset of 2 and attempting to order by either of the last 2 columns produces an output with no rows.

    Do you see that behaviour when you reproduce it?
