• Hello WP Forum Support,

Does the WP desktop app for Linux .deb file need some updating?

    I downloaded the wordpress.com-linux-dep-7.2.0.deb file from: https://apps.wordpress.com/desktop/

Placed it into the download folder in the administrator user account. Double clicked to install and find dependencies. There was only 1 dependence: gconf2. I did not install. Switched to standard user and looked into the Linux Mint Repository and found gconf2.

Clicked the homepage link and found- 404 NOT Found page: https://projects.gnome.org/gconf/

Searching Gnome website I found the new project: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/dconf

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GConf

In duckduckgo searched gconf … ubuntu and debian have many document pages on how to use it….

I am not professionally trained tech person. Just trying to be careful and slowly learning. Sorry if this topic is already known. I did preliminary searches in the forum and was not successful in finding this topic.

I did not go to all the Linux, Ubuntu, Debian sites to notify them, thinking there probably is a protocol, much happenings behind these project websites, and what do I know I am not a developer….

Does the WP desktop app for Linux .deb need some updating? Please let me know either way so I can install the desktop.

  • As a heads up, support in this forum is for users who have difficulties with the WordPress mobile app.

If you need assistance with the WordPress.com Desktop App, please post a question and/or search for answers in the WordPress.com forum: https://wordpress.com/forums/.

Hello, WP Support Forum, thabotswana (@thabotswana)

Thank you so much for a speedy response.

Before I started this topic at www.ads-software.com/support/forum I entered into a chat via my website dashboard at wordpress.com. Sorry I did not mention this.

    The WordPress.com Engineer typed:

“Note that WordPress.com is a hosting service, so you are looking for the www.ads-software.com site, where you can get the WordPress software. The .org site is the home of the open-source WordPress project. WordPress.com is a hosting service for WordPress sites.”

I know wordpress is colossal as a program, and as enterprise. The page https://apps.wordpress.com/desktop/ is probably only a place where this app is being made available and easy for those who pay for hosting at wordpress.com.

As opensource WordPress is public at GitHub:

    https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop

    https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop/blob/trunk/README.md

I am not a web developer and do not believe I should be contacting github…

I will wait for a new response before I continue with the instructions.

    Hello WP Support Forum,

This Topic SHOULD NOT BE in the MOBILE APP FORUM! Please take a more thorough look at this conversation, PLEASE!!!

This is NOT about a PLUG-IN! The tag dependency keeps over riding the tags I entered:

dependencies, NOT MOBILE APP, wordpress software, wordpress.com-linux-dep-7.2.0, .deb file, https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop

Hi rainbowflight! This is the www.ads-software.com forum, not the WordPress.com forum. I encourage you to post your question on the WordPress.com forum at https://wordpress.com/forums/ to get help with the WordPress.com desktop app. We won’t be able to dig into the trouble you’re having with the WordPress.com desktop app here as it’s not the same as the WordPress mobile app we support in this forum. I know that chat wasn’t helpful for you on WordPress.com, but I think you’ll get the answers you need on the forum for WordPress.com as they are the creators of the desktop app you’re trying to use

Ok, Thank you Azolla, I will try the wordpress.com/forums/

Thank you for your reply, and blessings,
