@kingfisher64 can you provide more context? Maybe a screenshot of the error?

Also can you please specify which version of WordPress you are using, and the list of plugins and their versions you have installed?

@kingfisher64 what page were you trying to access? Can you post the URL (without the domain name, eg, /wp-admin/index.php?...)?

    Thread Starter kingfisher64

    (@kingfisher64)

I wasn’t trying to access a page. I just clicked activate the plugin and query monitor plugin showed that error ??

    (@dizzyatinnocraft)

@kingfisher64 what I mean is, what’s the URL of the page you are on when the error occurs?

    (@dizzyatinnocraft)

Also, can you tell me what the actual problem is? Is it just that you see this error in the Query Monitor plugin or that the Matomo for WordPress plugin installs but won’t activate?

    (@kingfisher64)

    wp-admin/admin.php?page=matomo-get-started

It has enabled when I go back to the admin area.

Interesting… do you see the “Matomo Analytics” menu item in the WordPress admin menu? If you do, and you click on “Matomo Analytics > Get Started”, does the page load with the same error?

    Thread Starter kingfisher64

    (@kingfisher64)

If I click matomo analytics from the main menu it loads the summary page fine with graphs, charts etc.

What about the “Matomo Analytics > Get Started” submenu item? Or do you not see that option? (If not, can you list which menu items are visible for you?)

    Thread Starter kingfisher64

    (@kingfisher64)

This shows what menu links I see ?? I don’t see get started and the 2 external links load up 403 nginx errors.

    Thanks for your help.

Ok, the external links not loading up is due to your nginx config. Those links load https://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/matomo/index.php, which is not a normal WordPress endpoint. Your nginx config will need to allow this. If you are using a hosting provider you may need to contact them about this, though we have a FAQ that describes solutions for some hosting providers: https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/403-error-matomo-for-wordpress-plugin/

Regarding Get Started, is your WordPress user the super admin for WordPress?

Just realized https://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/matomo/index.php is wrong, it should be https://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/matomo/app/index.php
