    Installation:
    1. Upload entire directory to the <code>/wp-content/plugins/</code> directory
    2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
    3. Navigate to the plugin Options in your admin menu.
    4. Configure your options and save.
    5. Navigate to the Category menu
    6. Add a category or two.
    7. Create a new page for the User submission form.
    8. Add the shortcode for the directory. eg. [directory category=all], [directory category=yourcategoryid]
    9. Create a new page for the link submission form.
    10. Add the shortcode for the form. eg. [directory_signup ]
    11. Activate the pages and start maintaining your directory.
    12. Select sidebar to add Random Links widget.
    13. Add Random Links widget to your sidebar.
    14. Configure the Random Links widget with the edit link.
    15. Save the sidebar changes.

    7 – admin Pages – add new
Create a page called “User Submission” or whatever

8 – add only this in the Page text editor screen
[directory category=all] to cover all categories
    or
[directory category=yourcategoryid] if you just want a certain category
one or the other, though, not both – save/publish Page

9 – Create another Page called “Link Submissions” or whatever

10 – add only this in the Page text editor screen
    [directory_signup ]

    11 – View the pages

    12 – admin – Appearance – Widgets
look here to add to your sidebar
    rest is self-explanatory

    first thx
    i will try

Urgg… very difficult to understand the installation guide. After one week keep trying to setting up this kind of business directory, I found the solution. The solution is… if you can get other plugin, don’t waste your time for this plugin (WP-Directory-List). It is very hard to setting up on your WordPress.

Is it just me or is there a bug for 2.8.2? It seems like everything is set up and installed fine, but on the front end, none of the links or categories I’ve created are showing up. Anyone have any idea what’s going on? Setup on the back end is fine – I can make categories and links… not sure what the problem is.

If this wordpress plugin just has a bug or doesn’t work with 2.8, can you suggest a similar plugin that has the same or similar funcationality? I’m dying to get something up online but I can’t find anything that works…

It’s definitely got the feel of an incomplete plugin. I installed it for a project, and spent a number of hours making modifications to the code to add in some functionality I thought *should* have gone in by default.

I’m seriously considering tweaking the whole thing, and releasing it as a new plugin. It seems that there aren’t a lot of *good* choices for Directory Listings out there.

    @crunnells
I agree with you, there aren’t such goog directory listing plugings for WordPress.
This one is far from perfect, but seems to be better than other (well, that shows how the situation is bad in directory plugins)
A basic search option is not included in this plugin, so if you put each category on a page and you search for a phrase, you’ll get as a reply the whole category and not only the items in it that matches the search phrase.

I’d be really happy to know if you will improve it and release it as a new plugin! That would be just great.
If you let me know when that happens, even by replying to this thread, I’d be very thankful

I get nothing when installing the shortcode to the pages, the data just doesnt show up….any solutions?

you have to put it like this –

    [directory category=1]

where 1 (or other number) is the number of the directory you’ve defined in the plugin.
