Long story short – my blog disappeared yesterday (aka the dreaded white screen of death) and I discovered the entire WordPress folder had mysteriously disappeared from my public html folder. So what I did was, I reinstalled the latest version of WP and managed to connect it to my existing database. Phew.

My problem now is I still get the white screen when I go to my site – https://devilishlyred.com and when I go to devilishlyred.com/wordpress/, it says “Page can’t be found”? Is there a problem with the index.php page? I know very little about coding so I have absolutely no idea what went wrong. If it helps, I am able to login to the WP dashboard via wp-admin and all my old posts/pages etc are still reflected there.

I have tried troubleshooting by deactivating the .htaccess page and plugins and reverting to the default Twenty Fifteen theme but nothing worked. I have been at this for two days and I am at my wits’ end! I would greatly appreciate all the help that I get here.

Yes, I am using a host. Do you think the problem lies with their server or something? I thought I would try troubleshooting on WP’s end first before contacting them but I guess I probably should drop them a line.

When you originally installed WordPress to create this blog, did you install it in a folder named “wordpress” or in the root?

i guess my problem is exactly the same. i was running my blog Makar Sankranti and recently i updated WordPress new version for my blog and suddenly it stopped opening and only while screen appears. m looking for a solution for my problem why it is happening. for now i have shifted my blog to blogger until i get a solution for my problem.

Ok, now I feel kinda stupid but I finally found out why my index page did not show up. I installed WordPress in the folder named “wordpress” instead of in the root so I did another search on the forum and found this: Giving WordPress Its Own Directory

I copied the index.php and .htaccess files over to my public_html folder and made the changes as instructed. And it worked! Not sure if this would work for you though, jassiepinkman. Thanks NeoTechnomad for your tip too.

Anyway, I am switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme temporarily while I try to work out the codex problems I have with the theme that I was using before the whole white screen thing happened. Having lots of issues with it and this is going to be another major headache for me. Urgh. ??
