After updating to 3.8.1 via dashboard, I couldn’t reach the dashboard/couldn’t log in anymore with firefox saying “The page isn’t redirecting properly; Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.” The Browser accepts cookies.

I could log in after renaming /wp-content/plugins/the-event-calendar but was not yet able to repair the installation.

    Any ideas?

I “resolved” the matter for me

    – by getting old yet recently working the-events-calendar-3.8 from github
    – manually extracting it to the wp-content/plugins/ -folder
    – unpacking it and renaming the resulting folder to the-events-calendar

Now I’m back to normal and can work, though the situation is not nice and could use some “proper resolving”

That is not a longterm solution for sure, though I am glad you got it working for now.

We are planning some changes to our updater here. Basically if any other plugin, including other ones that have just updated and also want to show you their activation screen, tried redirecting you before you succesfully view the TEC activation screen then our plugin tries to redirect you back. They then try and redirect you, and an infinite game of tug of war begins. Lesson learned, we are considering some changes to make this not an issue anymore.

THere is also a second hypothetical scenario in which WordPress deems the admin_url() function to be unsafe, basically pointing to the wrong domain a network site. In this instance an infinite loop could occur as well. Again, we are going to address this.

I am glad you got it working for now. It is my hope that this will be fixed in the next release, and you can switch back to the standard update procedure. I will add your thread to our list of folks with an issue like this. Thanks for reporting it!
