Wp- login.php edit

  • I want to know if a slight edit to wp-login.php would be done in that file. Let me ‘splain.

    ERROR: Login failed because your IP address has been blocked. Please contact the administrator

    I want to add at the end some code

    administrator by clicking <a href="Mailto:[email protected]"> here </a>

    I’m assuming the ERROR code is in the file. If so, I can just add my bit of code, right?

    The answer would be no. While it’s never a good idea to edit core files, I don’t believe that error message has anything to do with WordPress core.

    I would suspect that error message is being generated by the security plugin you’re using.

    [edit] Just an afterthought/possible suggestion; A mailto link might not be the best way to go. If you already have a contact form, just make sure the contact link is displayed somewhere in your site menu. That’s usually a fairly user-intuitive solution.

    I guess that would make sense if your site was members only and couldn’t be viewed by anyone at all until after they log in.

    Is the security plugin just blocking login attempts after flagging an offending ip address, or is it blocking access to the entire site ???

    Just login attempts. I can reach the site. So, this means I’m blocked in wp-admin? Nope, no .htaccess file. No .htaccess in my plugin unless it is a folder I don’t recognize.
